Belladonna is prescribed for complaints which are characterised by sudden onset, redness, heat or inflammation. These conditions may include sore throat, tonsillitis, fever, and throbbing headaches.
Belladonna can help to relieve severe migraines which begin with a pain at the back of the head and gradually spread to the brow and settle behind the eyes. In infants, it is useful for teething (especially where the skin is hot, red and flushed), fever and earache.
Other conditions treated with Belladonna are bladder and mild urinary complaints, boils, fits, labour pains and swollen, painful breasts during breastfeeding.
Belladonna is especially indicated when the symptoms of illness include restlessness, agitation, extreme sensitivity to light, noise, movement or being touched.
